  • Woman appears to have superpowers

    • is able to defeat men very quickly and easily

    • Can jump rooftops

  • Movie is pretty dark

    • Shows how it is mysterious

  • Old computers shown

    • Shows the directors are not attempting to make this very futuristic looking

  • Neo (main character) is following directions of someone he doesn't know who speaks to him through his computer and the phone

  • Neo is punished by not following the directions

    • He gets arrested 

  • Woman appears to be trying to help Neo

    • Upset when he gets arrested

  • Science fiction seen - Neo’s mouth is pulled shut by some kind of futuristic tech

  • A scorpion looking device crawls inside Neo

    • Appears to be a dream

  • Women working against the gov pull the bug out of Neo

  • “I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life” - Neo

    • While allowing himself to be controlled by others

  • Morpheus gives Neo the option of taking one of two pills

    • Blue - wake up and believe whatever you want to believe

    • Red - stay in the present and learn more about what’s happening

  • Neo takes the red pill with little hesitation

  • Calls into question the differences between dream and reality

  • Thins movie focuses more on the human body 

    • More alienistic than others seen in the past

  • Very futuristic tech seen in the matrix

  • “Welcome to the real world”

    • Said to Neo after he enters the matrix

  • Lots of medical studies done on Neo

  • Shifts from futuristic tech to more dingy looking area when Neo wakes up

  • He seems to have traveled through time 

    • From 1999 to close to 2199

  • Neo’s appearance changes throughout the matrix

  • Neo and Morpheus exist in a computer program

    • Shows real life as solely a dream like state

  • The matrix is a computer generated dream world 

    • Meant to derive power fro humans

  • Experiments done on fetuses

  • Neo is now trapped in the matrix

  • There are people born in the matrix and those brought to the matrix

  • Even i the matrix there are old fashioned computers

  • The people in the matrix are able to learn certain traits just by being attached to machines

    • Skills are ‘loaded’ into them

  • If killed in the matrix they die in life as well

  • After developing all of these skills in the matrix, the people become almost indestructible

  • Even the people in the matrix question why they decided to take the red pill

  • “To deny our impulses is to deny the very thing that makes us human”

    • Curiosity is an innate human trait

    • Likely why they chose the red pill over the blue pill

  • Very philosophical questions asked in this movie

  • The oracle doesn’t believe that Neo is the one

  • The oracle tells Neo that either he or morpheus will die

  • She knows that he does not believe in fate

  • Deja vu is a glitch in the matrix

  • Morpheus is willing to risk his life for Neo because of how much he believes that he is the one

  • The agents have similar skills as the others

  • The agents are able to change their appearance

  • Matter acts differently in the matrix

  • Neo ends up being The One

    • The oracle purposefully lied to him 

  • Neo chooses to fight the agent rather than run

    • the agent is more powerful but Neo i able to continue fighting for a long time

    • He eventually wins and then chooses to run 

  • Neo is shot by an agent before returning to the other world

    • He is shot multiple times before he dies

  • True love’s kiss brings Neo back from the dead

  • Neo is then able to stop bullets mid air

  • Neo is able to fly into an agent and destroy him from the inside

  Love, Death, and Robots "The Dump"     This specific episode of Love, Death, and Robots  depicts a future in which an entire city has succumbed to pollution and is deemed inhabitable by the government. While this may be a bit of an over exaggeration, I do not believe that this vision is entirely inaccurate or absurd due to the current state of pollution already seen in the world. One scene in particular that I found to be very interesting was when the main character was fighting a monster constructed of trash after it dragged his friend away. It was clear that the character only fought because he was being directly affected by the pollution. Before it became personal, the man did not care about how the trash was affecting others or the environment. I believe that this is the directors way of showing that we must fight harder against the pollution issue now (even if it is not affecting us directly) because people are suffering, and it will eventually become too big ...

Metropolis Notes

 although this movie was supposed to be "futuristic," it still has a lot of past ideas  ex: women are property and serve men; the elite live about ground while the poor live below;           women  (Maria) cares for the children; lower classes aren't important, only work to serve the elite humans are behaving like machines underground resembles choreography planes, trains, and cars are depicted well for how old this movie is machines also depicted well, but do not require as much human interaction as suggester elite adults seen in suits, poor children seen in dirty "leisure" clothes heart machine runs the city futuristic architecture one character willing to risk his life for a machine shows that machines are more important than human lives mad scientist - fake, robot, hand; hunchback; has inverted pentagram which depicts evil in comparison Maria - shown totally clean and with candles and crosses behind her to show she is angelic very good de...
